How do I get a photo under 1 MB?

Set the max width to 1600–1920 px and quality to 70%. Most phone photos end up under 1 MB; if not, lower the quality a bit more.
What quality should I use?

For web images, 70–80% typically cuts file size by more than half with almost no visible difference. For print, use 90% or higher.
Why did the file get bigger?

If the original was already heavily compressed, re-encoding at a higher quality can increase the size. Lower the quality or switch to WebP.
Is this tool free? Do I need an account?
